We’ve been in fear this week that the church might be served with an abatement notice from our local council because of the noisy Easter Sunday service. It was not simply the choir starting with a loud fanfare but the congregation who repeatedly answered (at full volume), ‘He is risen indeed, Alleluia!’ whenever the bishop said ‘Christ is risen’.
It was a great encouragement for us all to hear an 85-year-old Michael Baughen, his face radiating joy as he spelled out the implication of Christ’s resurrection for all who trust in the Lord Jesus. It brought him through the loss of his beloved wife two years ago and assures him of eternal life in a new body in the presence of God when he dies.
Little wonder that he looked so happy. So did most of us as we left, grateful for Easter Sunday and all that it means. Christ is risen!
