While the comings and goings in Downing Street this week have occupied the media, significant comings and goings have also occurred in Oakshade Road.
On Wednesday four would-be vicars of Oxshott came with their wives (one each, of course) and spent the afternoon meeting people, exploring and trying to decide if St Andrew’s is the place for them. Many from the church worked hard feeding, chauffeuring, guiding, answering questions and showing them round. This was much appreciated by the candidates who remarked on the warm and friendly welcome from us all.
On Thursday the applicants did the work, presenting a sermon outline and answering some tough questions from the Bishop and his panel. Each interview began with prayer and early in the afternoon a ‘preferred candidate’ became apparent. We must now wait for him to decide, with his wife, if this is God’s call to him.
We continue to pray for God’s wisdom and may be in a position to make an announcement on 24 July. Watch this space!
