We have many different trees in the church grounds. Just to see them does us good.
Because we appreciate them we asked Lawrence, the tree man, to make his annual visit this week. Some branches had to go so the trees can grow stronger and last longer. Others had to go because they were dead.
The Lord Jesus (see John 15) uses pruning as an example of the way God works with us. He wants us to be fruitful and joyful so that others will want to know him too. When that happens God is glorified. The means he uses is the teaching of his word in which must stay firm (abide). It shows what needs to be cut from our lives if we are to grow stronger in Christ.
And that’s another job for the wardens in vacancy. Making sure that the Sunday services continue to do us good.
