Frequent Asked Questions

St. Andrews': Where is it?

It is where the members of the church are, at any one time.

What does it do in Oxshott?

It goes quietly about its business, which is to communicate the love of Christ within the community.

So what's that building in Oakshade Road?

It is the base from which this work is done. Inherited from the Christians who built it over ninety years ago, it is the spiritual Health and Community Centre of the parish. Its place of worship, its office, the meeting places for its management, and its various sized rooms and hall are used by anyone in the parish touched by the work of the church.

Who are these people?

They are of all ages, both sexes, and come from a variety of income levels and lifestyles. Some are professional, some students; some work with their hands - or backs. Children come from State and Private schools locally, and young people away at school or University come back here to meet their friends when they come home. The elderly come for company and sometimes a meal together, and young mothers come for adult conversation. Retired people enjoy activity and companionship, and the satisfaction which comes from making a skilled contribution to the work of the parish. Commuters come to nourish the parts that the City of London doesn't reach. Many come from overseas, finding at St Andrew's a place of fellowship where they can fill the gap left by their own church at home.

When do they come?

Not just on Sundays. Not just when they are 'bred, wed or dead', 'hatched, matched and dispatched', although these touch points of human life and are understood and valued profoundly here. Nor do they just come when they are spiritually sick, when they are sad or bewildered, when their lives are in a mess.

They also come because they are happy and cheerful and want to celebrate their happiness and good cheer.

They don't claim to be the 'good' people. They don't even claim to be especially godly. But when they are active together and when they are still together, many good things happen, and in the heart of all they do together, they find God Himself.

How can I find out what else is going on at St Andrew's, and what's in it for me?

One way is by contacting the Parish Office, telephone (01372) 842071, or pop in if you prefer.  Have a look around this website and visit some other recommended websites.

The Parish Office is a small, busy office where many different feet pass over the threshold daily, and it is a place for meeting people and making friends. Its workload is affected by the time of year in the Church's traditional calendar, for we are at our busiest when we are approaching major church festivals.

The roles of the Parish Administrator and Secretary are to liaise with various key personnel at St Andrew's, particularly the Clergy, Churchwardens, Treasurer, the Director of Music, the Chairman of the Building and Furnishing committee, and the leaders of the Mothers' Union, Twig, St Andrew's Playgroup, Junior Church, the various Youth Groups and House (support) Groups.

Events happening in the Church itself are recorded in the Church Diary and include Christmas services, Nativity plays and Harvest Festivals for the Royal Kent School and Danes Hill School, and performances by the Oxshott Choral Society, which actually trains under our own Director of Music in the Church Hall. These are then published in a What's On guide and on this website.
