The annual end of season match between St Andrew’s Church and the Oxshott Club was a hugely enjoyable and dramatic occasion, with thrills and lots of spills. George, captaining the Club side won the toss and elected to field, putting the church into bat to face a onslaught of wild and wacky balls. Starting smartly with boundaries and a couple of sixes, Mike and Ian skied a number of balls with catches finally sticking after a couple of drops. The juniors in the team put in a much more classy performance with the church putting on 99 in its 20 overs.
After a top tea from Jeff at OVSC and a few more drinks, the Club went in facing some deadly fast bowling from juniors such as Matty, Sandy and Sam and some fiendish spin from captain Jamie, with acrobatics from junior wicket keeper, Peter. Golden ducks were forgiven and Dave hit out to put some runs on the board. Wickets tumbled, but the runs mounted up when George and Gavin came in as tail-enders. As the final over arrived, the scores were tied and Gavin was dramatically caught at slip with still a run to get. Matthew came in to save the day, giving George the strike to win with a deft boundary. The Club regained the Alfie Skelton Shield and both teams and supporters came together to celebrate a great day of fellowship and fun.
