Owerri is a city in southeastern Nigeria. It is the capital of Imo State and is set in the heart of the Igboland. It is simply called Heartland. The city of Owerri currently has a population of about 230,000 but the Diocese has a vast population and contains many areas struggling with terrible poverty and no running water.
Our appeal was for 100 people to save 20p per day for 5 months.
That way we would each save £30.
This would then provide £3000 to sink a borehole.
In fact the appeal raised £9,000 – three times as much as we had hoped. This amazing amount raised has allowed our friends in

This now means over 1200 families in each case not having to fetch water from the stream situated 5 miles from their village.
We are now following up our Outreach work with the Bishop of Owerri by supporting the Diocesan doctor in a year's study in the UK - see our Nigerian Health Project page.
