What is a Parochial Church Council?

It is the duty of the vicar and the Parochial Church Council (PCC) to consult together on matters of general concern and importance to the parish.

The functions of the PCC include, among other things, co-operation with the minister in promoting in the parish the whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical and the consideration and discussion of matters concerning the Church of England or any other matters of religious or public interest other than the declaration of the doctrine of the Church on any question.*

Among the powers, duties and liabilities vested in PCCs are those relating to the financial affairs of the church and the care, maintenance and preservation of its fabric (including the power to seek repairs under the Chancel Repairs Act 1932).

*Section 2 of the Parochial Church Councils (Powers) Measure 1956
