Advent is here! The count-down to Christmas has begun.
The word ‘advent’ means ‘arrival’ or ‘coming’. Looking back 2000 years, the arrival is of the new baby, Jesus, born as Emmanuel – God with us. But at St Andrew’s we will also look forward to an unknown time in the future (mentioned in several places in the Bible) when Jesus will return as King and Judge of all people.
As we anticipate the arrival of visitors to our homes this Christmas, we make preparations: tidying up, buying presents, and so on. And it’s the same with our faith. Advent is a time of preparation, of clearing out the mess in the spare room of our lives, saying sorry to God and reminding ourselves of the gift that Jesus has come to save those who turn to him in repentance and humility.
Please do join us as we anticipate, prepare and take time out from busy-ness to remember the really important news of Jesus’ arrival long ago as a baby and in the future as our King.
