Tuesday Reflections

Reflection Two: The parable of the tenants

Play some introductory music  (About 2 mins worth.  Ask God to help you settle, to put away the things of the day and to concentrate upon Him.)

Now watch Frances as she leads our reflections. If you have not been able to print the booklet you will find the prayers and readings below.

After the time of meditation, Frances continues to lead our prayers in a second video at Father Forgive below.

We keep silence.

O God make speed to save us.
O Lord, make haste to help us.

Let your ways be known on earth
your saving power among the nations.

That this evening may be holy, good & peaceful,
let us pray with one heart and mind.

We pray in silence for a moment.

As our evening prayer rises before you, O God,
so may your mercy come down upon us to cleanse our hearts
and set us free to sing your praise
now and for ever.  Amen

Reading          Mark 12.1-12

Time to mediate and pray

(put on some music if you wish)

  1. Praise the name of Jesus by reciting as many of his names as you can and allow God to speak to you through them.
  2. One definition of a cornerstone is this: ‘Something of great importance that everything else depends on.
Please show me, Lord, where I have made you my cornerstone and the places in my life where I have still not accepted that you are everything I need.
  3. Mediate upon the words of this worship song. Perhaps you could play it while you pray.

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song
This Cornerstone, this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! – who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe.
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

Father, forgive

God shows his love for us
in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Let us then show our love for him
by confessing our sins in penitence and faith.

Friend of sinners, you bring hope in our despair.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Emmanuel, Corner-stone, you give strength in our weakness.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.

Destroyer of evil, you bring life in our dying.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

The assurance of forgiveness

Collect for Evening Prayer

Lighten our darkness,
Lord we pray,
and in your great mercy
defend us from all perils
and dangers of this night,
for the love of your only son,
our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen
